Greetings from the upstate of South Carolina. After several years in the field of public law enforcement, I began a career in the nuclear security profession at the Duke Energy Oconee Nuclear Site. During my tenure in the nuclear power industry, I have served as a corporate training instructor with the primary responsibility for teaching topics relating to criminal justice, emergency preparedness, and crisis negotiation techniques. In this capacity, I received extensive training in the design, development, and implementation of instructional materials as well as the use of emerging technologies for delivering educational content. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to serve as an instructor for law enforcement agency crisis negotiation training sessions, a guest lecturer for college criminal justice and political science classes, as well as a speaker at various conferences and seminars.

Academically, I have received a
Master of Arts in Criminal Justice (MACJ) from Arizona State University, Master of Human Resource Development (MHRD) from Clemson University, Bachelor of Science (BS) in Management from Southern Wesleyan University, and an Associate of Public Service (APS) in Criminal Justice from Tri-County Technical College. To stay abreast of relevant knowledge in the criminal justice profession I have completed a Graduate Certificate in Security Studies from the University of Massachusetts and am presently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security Management from the University of Virginia. Additionally, to enhance my instructional skills I have obtained a Graduate Certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching from the University of Wisconsin.

As an instructor, I have received certification through the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division
(SLED) for teaching criminal justice related courses to private security officers and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) National Academy for Nuclear Training as an instructor within the nuclear power industry. As a component of my professional development, to enhance the knowledge and skills needed to facilitate the diverse learning needs of students in the traditional classroom setting as well as the online learning environment, in addition to a Graduate Certificate in E-Learning and Online Teaching from the University of Wisconsin, I have completed continuing education coursework focused on Teaching Adult Learners through the University of Georgia and Generational Learning Styles through the University of South Dakota.
“The combined knowledge and skills obtained through the completion of my academic education, instructor certification activities and continuing training efforts have allowed me to better design, develop, and implement learning activities focusing on formative assessment methods that facilitate student learning and promote higher-order thinking.” ~Danny Durham
As a security practitioner, I became board-certified through the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS International) as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) which required demonstrable proof of knowledge and management skills in various domains of security management. With a professional interest in the law enforcement crisis negotiation process, I have received specialized training from the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) at the University of North Florida as well as organizations such as the Public Agency Training Council (PACT) and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). In consideration of the rapid advancement and integration of technology into everyday life, I have also received extensive training in addressing cyber security threats and implementation of protection measures for digital assets within the nuclear power industry and society as a whole.

In my free time, I enjoy seeking and participating in lifelong learning activities with the goal of constantly expanding my knowledge, learning new skills, and improving upon existing technical competencies. However, while enthusiastic about professional development activities, I also strive to maintain a work-life balance by spending time with family and friends, reading for pleasure, involving myself in various sporting activities, and traveling to explore new or favorite destinations. And, as luck would have it, many of my leisure activities also involve learning opportunities that adhere to my belief that “our whole life is an education.”(
